Judge called on players to talk about Yankees woes

NEW YORK – The New York Yankees held an exclusive player meeting earlier this week, convened by the All-Star outfielder. Aaron Judge, to air their problems in the midst of a deepening slump.

Judge said he requested the meeting Tuesday to speak with the struggling Yankees as a team, but declined to provide details on exactly what was discussed.

“Only [tenía] some things on my mind, some things that I’ve been seeing over the course of the year, “Judge said Friday afternoon before the first game of the 2021 Subway Series.” Usually around the All-Star break is The moment you have a meeting and the guys go over the things that go into the second half. But I felt like there are some things that couldn’t wait until the All-Star break to be brought up.

“It was a good time for many of us to be honest with each other.” “Maybe [decir] some things we had in mind … Get the best out of it, say what you need to say to someone and don’t let someone’s feelings get hurt. It was a good reunion. There was a lot of excitement, but I think overall it was great for the team. “

Judge did not elaborate, but the meeting took place two days before owner Hal Steinbrenner addressed the media and pointed to his players as responsible for the Yankees’ downfall of the season. The Yankees (41-39) entered Friday’s game in fourth place in the AL East, 9 games behind archrivals Boston Red Sox.

Steinbrenner referred to Thursday’s meeting, describing it as “fiery” and saying the message could be more effective coming from a player than from a coach or top office executive.

“They had a team-only meeting a couple days ago which, in my opinion, is always the best kind of meeting,” said Steinbrenner, who also supported manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman saying he wouldn’t have one. “knee-jerk reaction” to the Yankees’ troubles.

“In my opinion, most of the responsibility falls on the players. They are the ones on the field,” Steinbrenner added. “They need to fix the problem because everyone including our fan base has rightly had enough … We can all share the blame, but most of the blame is theirs.”

Judge fully agreed.

“That’s ultimately what it comes down to. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says,” Judge said. “We are the ones on the field. We are the ones competing. I know the front office and other guys have their hands on it, putting the players on the field, but ultimately [todo] it comes down to work and the results you get in the field. “

Also before the start of their interleague game against the New York Mets on Friday, the Yankees placed the left fielder Clint frazier on the injured list. Boone said it was “vertigo.” Frazier, who was pulled from Wednesday’s game after complaining of dizziness, is still undergoing “a battery of tests,” Boone said.

Boone hasn’t said this is due to Frazier’s previous concussion issues, but he didn’t rule it out either. Frazier was diagnosed with a vestibular concussion in 2018, which took a long time for him to recover and can have a long-lasting effect on spatial recognition and balance.

“We have started that battery of tests here these last few days and it has been quite extensive. When we have all that information, total clarity, we will have a better answer for you,” Boone said of Frazier’s placement at the IL. “There aren’t a lot of details right now for you, other than a series of tests – doctors, hospitals, things like that, just trying to [ver] if we can discover something or get to the bottom of something. So it’s a litany of evidence what he’s going through. ”According to Boone, Frazier didn’t alert the club of any seasickness until he was put out in the second inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The move to the disabled list is retroactive to Thursday, and outfielder Tim Locastro was added to the active list before Friday’s game.
