Joey Gallo’s New York Yankees Story finally ended up on the final date of change of MLBafter the Italian-American ended his martyrdom in the Bronx when traded to the Los Angeles Dodgersin a situation that became dramatic in which the batsman even fell into an emotional rut.
Fortunately for both parties, the experiment ended, with Gallo’s stint in the Bronx entering the history books as one of the worst deals of the Cashman era.
Brian Cashman has been GM of the Yankees since 1998, winning four World Series, and a fifth if we count 1996, where he served as assistant general manager, but just as there have been successes and great signings with Cashman, there have also been failures and bad deals, as is the case with Gallo, which, statistically speaking, was the worst deed since he became the boss of the Yankees office.
Although it was only one year, since he arrived at the Yankees, Gallo has probably been the worst hitter in the entire Major Leagues, since of all the sluggers qualified for the batting title, he is the one with the worst averages with .159/ .291/.368 in 501 plate appearances, earning a salary of $10.5 million, and striking out 194 times in that span.
Perhaps no other trade has been as disastrous for two sides, with the nightmare finally ending with Gallo on the Dodgers, recently being added to Los Angeles’ active roster.
