World Series: First time the top two picks from the same draft meet at WS

Dansby Swanson and Alex Bregman, the top two picks in the 2015 MLB Draft, will meet in this World Series. It will be the first SM where the top two picks from the same draft will meet.

Bregman moved to third base in the Minor Leagues and was playing alongside Correa just over a year later. The two have anchored one of the most successful infields in baseball in recent years, along with second baseman. José Altuve and first baseman Yuli Gurriel:

Along the way, Bregman achieved two results among the top five MVPs in the American League, won a Silver Slugger and is a two-time All-Star. He has played 15 fewer regular-season games in his career than Swanson, but has a higher OPS + (138 to 89) and bWAR (26.1 to 9.1). Bregman was the first 2015 Draft player to make his debut, 23 days before Swanson.

Swanson spent just five months with Arizona before being traded to the Braves with Ender Inciarte and Aaron Blair for pitcher Shelby Miller. Swanson spent his early years before becoming a solid shortstop on a Braves team that won four straight National League East titles. This year, he was down .248 / .311 / .449 with 27 homers and 88 RBIs in 160 games in the regular season.

It didn’t take Bregman long to understand that the Astros taking second overall turned out pretty well. He has played in five consecutive American League Championship Series and will appear in his third World Series.

His 12 career postseason home runs are tied with Atlanta’s Joc Pederson for 10th among active players.

He’s comfortable enough with his career accomplishments that being taken No. 2 overall doesn’t bother him much anymore, although his jersey number always serves as a reminder.
