Sunday’s was the Colombian’s first homer as a pinch-hitter Donovan Solano in his career and the 14th of the year for San Francisco Giants, tying the franchise record previously established in 1974 and tied in 2001.
San Francisco leads the majors in home runs as a pinch-hitter this year (14), a sign of the team’s depth and ability to play matchups and take advantage of the peloton – bench – at the end of games. Solano said in Spanish:
I’ve never faced that pitcher before. I know he has a good fastball and slider. I was looking for a fastball, something close to my body. That was the plan and luckily I was able to swing well. “
For his part, the manager, Gabe Kapler, said that his players are always prepared to come to bat at zero hour:
