MLB: Houston Astros and their history of No Hits No Runs (+Videos)

During their career in the Major Leagues, the Houston Astros present an interesting story regarding one of the most complex feats in baseball, a No Hit No Run; In fact, they can boast of being the only ones to apply this feat against the New York Yankees in the last 64 years.

But the trail of that brilliance, like everything has a genesis:

They were born in 1962, they were called the Colt 45 being part of the National League, and as quickly as the following year, on May 17, they annexed their first no-hitter game although giving up a hairline, the work of Don Nottebart, on the way to a triumph of 4-1 over the Philadelphia Phillies.

On April 23, 1964, a “tragedy” occurred within a great achievement; Ken Johnson gave up no hits to the Cincinnati Reds, but he did give up one run and lost the game, 1-0.

Don Wilson was able to fully savor the flavor of this feat, by leaving the Atlanta Braves 2-0 without hits or runs, on June 18, 1967, already as the Astros.

The same character repeated on May 1, 1969, fading the Reds with a 4-0 scoreline.

The Montreal Expos could do nothing against Larry Dierker, who beat them 6-0 on July 9, 1976.

The one achieved on April 7, 1979 is one of the most special, Ken Forsch left the Braves without a chance 7×0, he also emulated his brother Bob as the first pair of big league brothers to achieve a No Hit No Run; Bob got the first of his career on April 16, 1978 with the St. Louis Cardinals beating the Phillies 5-0; later on September 26, 1983, also with the Red Birds, he did it again against the Expos.

Of the seven he achieved in his career, more than anyone else in history, as a sidereal Nolan Ryan produced one on September 26, 1981; 5-0 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, “El Expreso” got the number 5 of his career, establishing a Major League record and leaving behind that of the iconic Dodgers pitcher, Sandy Koufax.

For September 25, 1986, it was up to Mike Scott to be part of the list; in the duel that gave them the title of the Western Division of the Old Circuit, they defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-0.

In a Déjà vu, Darryl Kyle made the New York Mets hitless, but they scored 7-1 on September 8, 1993.

Little less than 10 years later, the scenario could not be better to get a new No Hit No Run, the old Yankee Stadium, where on June 11, 2003, Roy Oswalt (1), Peter Munro (2.2), Kirk Saarloos ( 1.1), Brad Lidge (2), Octavio Dotel (1) and Billy Wagner (1), combined to win 8-0.

Mike Fiers also had one on August 21, 2015, accounting for 3-0 for the Dodgers.

A new team arrived on August 3, 2019, defeating the Mariners 9-0. Aaron Sánchez (6), Will Harris (1), Joe Biagini (1) and Chris Devenski (1) are the authors.

Another prolific player in games without hits and streaks, Justin Verlander, achieved his first in the Astro uniform on September 1, 2019, caged the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0.

Finally, this June 25, 2022, Cristian Javier (7) Héctor Neris (1) and Ryan Pressly (1) defeated the most powerful offense of the season, the New York Yankees, 3X0.
