This Wednesday afternoon, August 3, the directors of the Miami Marlins organization reported through their social networks the decision to dispense with the services of the experienced Cuban catcher and first baseman. Lawrence Quintanawho is officially released.
Quintana, 33, played 60 games this 2022 season with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimpla team, a Triple A branch of the Marlins, in which he posted an offensive average of .246, with 14 home runs, 12 doubles and a triple as extra-base hits, in addition to 54 RBIs and 41 runs scored. His offensive line was .306 / .479 / .785 (OBP / SLG / OPS).

In four years in the Minors, the native of Pinar del Río has not had the opportunity to debut in the Major Leagues and what seemed more likely now with the Marlins, has not materialized, despite his consistent hitting, his good defensive tools and the fact that Miami is a franchise that tends to be uncompetitive in MLB seasons and could give its farm players opportunities.
Throughout his time through the different levels of the Minors, Quintana accumulated 51 home runs and 190 RBIs in 1,077 times at bat and 302 games played, with an offensive average of .276.
We have to wait if in the immediate future Quintana is presented with other options to continue playing in the Minors with another franchise, but at his age it seems like a complicated situation.
