WWE Raw Superstar reveals how his “first name” was taken from him

The current Raw Tag Team Champion, Riddle, recently revealed how WWE decided to remove “Matt” from his name, since “Riddle” itself sounds more solid and louder. He also explained how this decision helps commenters not get confused when referring to him.

Before his name was changed, Riddle was known as Matt Riddle for most of his career in the professional wrestling industry. However, this lasted until October of last year, when WWE confirmed that he was going to be known as “Riddle” and, although this decision upset many fans at the time, people quickly adapted to this change.

Riddle talks about his WWE name change

While in conversation with BT Sports’ Ariel Helwani, Riddle talked about his name change and shared his thoughts on it. The WWE Red Mark Superstar’s words were as follows:

“I think it’s because they didn’t know what to call me, Matt or Matthew. I prefer Matthew, but the commentators were just calling me Matt and I didn’t care. I was like ‘Whatever you can get out’ but I think they wanted something that’s solid and then they call me one day and say ‘Hey, do you mind if we call you Riddle, the original brother (The Original BRO)?’ and I was like ‘no [no me importa]'”.

Many WWE stars have undergone name changes in the recent past, and there are plenty of examples. Apollo (Apollo Crews), Shorty G (Chad Gable) and Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart) are some of the superstars who have had name changes to make them shorter.
