Shayna Baszler became a wrestler thanks to Ronda Rousey’s mother

‘The Queen of Swords’, twice Champion of NXTShayna Baszler, revealed that AnnMaria De Mars, mother of UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rouseyhad a vital role in her decision to be a fighter.

“This is actually a great story. She was living together with Ronda, the four of us were living in the same house. We all trained mixed martial arts in the same gym. I used to reserve the TV every Monday, and I think SmackDown was on Tuesdays at the time, I don’t remember exactly. But I made time to watch RAW and SmackDown every week, I planned my training around it. Over time, the other girls came over and were absorbed.”

“Shayna, you’re not seeing that, you’re studying it” Ronda’s mother said to Baszler to convince her to become a wrestler

“At a certain point, Ronda’s mom arrived while RAW was on the air. They all got up to greet her at the door, I was just attentive there, seeing what was happening. Ronda’s mom walked into the room and said ‘Oh Shayna, you’re not looking at that, you’re studying it.’ I looked at her and said ‘What are you talking about?’ She replied: ‘Maybe you should think about it!’” Baszler narrated.

Shayna went on to become one of the most dominant stars in NXT, holding the Brand Women’s Title twice, with one of them lasting 416 days.
