More on the “unplanned” moment between Reigns and Owens at Survivor Series

WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns is reportedly suffering from an ear injury.

As noted, Reigns was known to be visibly upset after the War Games main event at WWE Survivor Series on Saturday. Reigns was said to be upset by a slap he received from Kevin Owens, which he reportedly saw as an unplanned moment.

Reigns was reportedly “full of swear words” when he returned backstage, and it was clear to everyone that he wasn’t happy. Reigns suffered bruising under his eye and there was talk of a ruptured eardrum.

In an update, a new report from the Wrestling Observer notes that Reigns definitely suffered a left eardrum injury on the spot with Owens. According to the report, Reigns felt that the slap did not make much sense in the match.

Multiple sources reported that while Reigns was obviously furious, the situation largely blew up about 20 minutes later. Other sources are reporting that the situation hasn’t completely dissipated, but it’s not like creative plans changed because of what happened, or that Reigns won’t be working with Owens.

Reigns reportedly handpicked Owens and Sami Zayn to work with long-term. Coming out of the Survivor Series situation, there was a feeling among some that Reigns didn’t have to pick them to work with, but he did, and he was angry that something happened that he felt, given his character, shouldn’t have happened. Furthermore, he was injured on the spot.

Reigns was scheduled to hang out with Paul Heyman for the post-Survivor Series press conference on Saturday night, but Zayn ended up filling in for him.

Reigns is rumored to defend his championships against Owens at the Royal Rumble in January and then face Zayn at Elimination Chamber in February.

It was also reported that Zayn and Owens take on WWE’s Undisputed Tag Team Champions, The Usos, for WrestleMania 39.
