Stat of the day: batting and running. Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Jake Cronenworth, off the Colorado Rockies, he hit a deep drive that bounced wildly off the wall and away from right fielder Charlie Blackmon, resulting in an inside-the-park home run.
It happened Tuesday night in Denver Coors Field, and it also happened on May 19 in San Diego (also vs. Rockies). Cronenworth became the third batter for the San Diego Padres to record multiple home runs inside the park in the same season, joining Gene Richards in 1982 and Tony Gwynn Jr. in 2010. Neither did it against the same team:
It was Cronenworth’s second in-park home run of the season, both of which came against the Rockies themselves and both in awkward carom for Rockies right fielder Charlie Blackmon.
Cronenworth became the third Father to hit multiple home runs inside the parks in the same season, joining Tony Gwynn Jr.
