Javier Sahagun it marked an era in Mexican television journalism. His sports chronicles remain in the retina of thousands of fans. But there were moments of extreme tension in which he had to endure various criticisms. For example, when he began to narrate the wrestling of the Wwe for national territory.

According to what Sahagún told the channel The Sports Capital, after having narrated taekwondo in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, next to Jorge Pietrasanta, the opportunity was presented to transmit RAW, one of the two most important brands in WWE.

The company of Vince McMahon wanted to enter the Mexican market and offered to broadcast its two brands for free (RAW and Smackdown) through the two largest television stations in the country: Televisa and Aztec TV.

Javier Alarcon, then head of sports of televised sports, proposed to Sahagún and Pietra recounting the weekly events of RAW on the grounds that their narratives in Olympic Games they had been very good. The answer was blunt: “Javier, taekwondo has nothing to do with wrestling ”.

None of the commenters were convinced of the project. But after much thought, they ended up accepting the invitation despite the complications they had to enter that new context. “They convinced us after a while. It was a show we didn’t want to do”Sahagún confessed.

In those first approaches, the duo Sahagún-Pietrasanta he had to prepare in a special way for the challenge. They took classes with the two official Hispanic storytellers of the company. “We did a training session in New York. We went to WWE headquarters, where the narration is done in Spanish, with (Carlos) Cabrera and (Hugo) Savinovich. It was at that time the two who were doing the narration, “he said.

So much Huguito as Cabrera provided advice and experience to the two chroniclers of Televisa. Despite that instruction, the first transmissions were not easy and they had to accept various criticisms by the specialized public. They (Savinovich and Cabrera) were our teachers. We had a week of training. In a week you don’t learn what you would have to learn in years ”, Sahagún said.

Social media was fledgling back then, but there were a multitude of comments on it anyway. Facebook in which people made known their dissatisfaction with the narratives. “When we go back and start fighting, people realized that we did not know. There are many guys who are knowledgeable about the struggles: tea ‘they regret ‘ Mother. They fell on us in the networks ”.

Sahagún commented that even the directors were thinking of changing commentators. “We saw one comment, another comment, all the comments, in all of them, that we were about … They all told us the same thing. There was no positive one. And so it was for several weeks. “

Despite the ferocity of the criticism, neither Sahagún nor Pietrasanta accepted that the comments are censored. They were aware that they had to improve. “We have to accept because there are people who do know how to fight and we cannot hide, we can’t fool anyone ”.

Sahagún and Pietra had to dedicate themselves in a special way to studying WWE. From the fighters, their characters and rivalries, to the stories of the brands. Thus, when the possibility of both chroniclers leaving the narrative was raised again, they objected and made it clear that they wanted to continue broadcasting. Over the years, they ended up adhering to the taste of a large sector of the public.
