Trouble for Ramos

The defensive losses, which seemed to be a problem for PSG, have become an opportunity for Galtier to change the system in the French capitala. The French coach had used a 3-4-3 since the beginning of the season that, although he had not had major setbacks, was suffering his first setbacks during the last month. In fact, before the victory against Marseille, PSG came from a run of three consecutive draws that had called into question the system of three central defenders of the Parisians.

On Sunday, at Le Classique and without Ramos, Nuno Mendes or Kimpembe, Galtier decided to change the 3-4-3 for a 4-3-1-2 that undoubtedly strengthened the team. According to L’Equipe, the 1-0 win against Marseille could definitively establish the four-defense system as the favorite for the rest of the season. An alternative that, however, pIt could generate a dilemma with Sergio Ramos.

The Andalusian defender, who will complete his cycle on Friday against Ajaccio (two match ban for his red card against Reims), has recovered sensations this season in Paris. His discomfort in the soleus has completely disappeared and Galtier’s system of three central defenders had strengthened him to, in addition to protecting him, not physically require him as if he were playing in the open field with four defenders. Kimpembe’s return to training this week forces the PSG coach to decide between the experience of the Spanish international or the speed of the French centre-back, considering that Marquinhos is immovable.

A priori, Ramos starts with an advantage. His leadership in the locker room, together with his good performance, have made him one of Galtier’s pillars at the start of the season. Although he cannot play on Friday against Ajaccio due to suspension, the inactivity of Kimpembe, who should, in principle, return against Maccabi next Tuesday, should not, in the short term, threaten his starting role in Paris. Nevertheless, Kimpembe’s Parisian sentiment, trained in the PSG youth academy, in addition to being one of the Parc des Princes’ favourites, they could play for the world champion in 2018 with the French team. A healthy competition that should lead to an increase in the level of both in the defensive back.
