The future of soccer: connected shin guards to know the performance of the players

5G never ceases to amaze us. As we learn about its many possibilities, more and more elements emerge that allow its connectivity to improve our day-to-day life in the immediate future. If at the Mobile World Congress we are discovering this wide catalog of products that enable new connectivity, we should not be impressed by shin guards connected to the mobile network.

And it is that although the binomial “leg protector and connectivity” sounds like something difficult to relate, we must let ourselves be carried away by the ingenuity of the innovation teams that have made it possible. In this way, we will be able to recognize that these essential “shields” can be the best confidants for physical trainers.

Biometric data

Real time monitoring

Humanox and Telefónica have presented a tool in the Barcelona MWC edition with which an athlete can be monitored at all times and in real time by their physical trainer. With which you will know biometric data to determine physical condition and analyze the activity you have developed. In the case of footballers, the usefulness of the shin guard is perfectly represented by the numerous data it provides to its coach.

Made of carbon fiber, they have various sensors to identify GPS / GNSS position, pedometric activity, body temperature and heart rate, as well as two accelerometers, two gyroscopes, a force meter, a timer, microphones, a card. sim and bluetooth. The essential thing to obtain information about the most valuable player and their performance.

Through an application available for mobile terminals and tablets, the supervisor will be able to know in real time everything necessary to evaluate the player: know how he recovers after an intense sprint, discover the top, average and slowest speed of the session, what is his fatigue after several minutes of play or even the force with which you shoot the ball. Figures that are revealed in the mobile application and that are complemented with cartography to define heat maps of the player on the field, of the positions of the ball kicks and of the positions of the impacts received.

Help prevent injuries and improve activity through data analysis

“The possibilities that this product offers us are numerous and very valuable for athletes and their trainers, since in addition to obtaining precise values of the player’s performance, injuries can be prevented and activity improved by analyzing the data”, explains Ana Vega, an expert in innovation at Telefónica. In addition, the shin guard measures the body temperature of its user during the first five minutes, in order to rule out any complications to their health.

It is a shin protector that, thanks to its built-in microphone, can also differentiate kicking the ball from other hits. Its two high-precision accelerometers can offer 250,000 raw data per game. Its autonomy does not leave indifferent either: they have a battery that offers an average of four and a half hours of duration.
