The arbitration controversies of Marco Ortiz in the Tigres vs Santos

Three important decisions marked the course of the match that ended in a draw between Felinos and Guerreros

The referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava had a difficult night at the University Stadium during the engagement between Tigres and Santos that ended with a tie at one point.

There were three plays that aroused the controversy and could change the course of the duel on the third date of the Opening 2021.

The first occurred at minute 34, when after reviewing the VAR monitor, the whistler showed the red card to the stellar reinforcement of Tigres Florian Thauvin, for an entry on Omar fields that forced him out due to injury. “The Frenchman Thauvin was well expelled,” explained ESPN referee analyst Felipe Ramos Rizo.

“Hopefully it’s nothing, he’s at a high level, we resent when we didn’t have him, hopefully he recovers, I can’t advance anything because they will study him,” said Guillermo Almada, Santos coach, at a press conference after the game.

Another controversial action also occurred in the first part, when the ‘Tooth’ Lopez made a strong tackle that Ortiz Nava only qualified with a yellow card. “Nico Lopez’s kick is a red card, Marco Ortiz no longer dared to send him off,” added the former international referee.

Finally, when Tigres jumped to the front – despite playing with one less – in search of a tie, the Paraguayan forward Carlos Gonzalez received a clear elbow inside the area that the referee went to review the VAR, however, his decision was not to point out the infraction. “He must sanction a penalty and expulsion of the Santos player,” said Ramos Rizo.

Finally, Miguel Herrera’s team rescued a point in his first game as Tigres coach at the Volcán after the annotations of Gorriarán and Salcedo.
