River Plate vs Boca Juniors preview

ANDThis will be a special weekend for Argentine soccer, since for the first time in 18 months the public will be allowed to enter the country’s stadiums. It also helps that both teams come into this match with good streaks as River is undefeated in the last eight games and two points off the top.

River is looking to beat its archrival for the first time since the 2019 Copa Libertadores semifinals. That same key also marked the last victory for Boca, as the last four games ended in a draw.

The difference is that in two of those games there were penalties and Boca was victorious in both matches.

The biggest doubts for Marcelo Gallardo’s River lie in River’s attack. The defense is already defined. The Paraguayan player, David Martínez, is almost ruled out as he has not been able to recover from your quadriceps injury.

This will allow his teammate of the Paraguayan team, Robert Rojas, to take his starting position. As for the good news, forward Matías Suárez seems to have recovered and everything indicates that he will start.

The big question at this point is whether Gallardo will play Braian Romero, whom he coveted before hiring him before the start of the season, or at the wheel Benjamin Rollheiser, who has seen a lot of action in recent weeks.

Boca is also on a roll. In a difference of a few weeks, the Xeneixes went from being one of the last three teams in the table to being in the first six places.

It is possible that the player of the Colombian team, Jorman Campuzano, plays as a central midfielder, since he has the confidence of the coach, Sebastian Battaglia.

There are doubts about whether Battaglia will include Rodrigo Montes in the starting team or if he will include Cristián Montes, or even Alan Varela. The inclusion of both players would mean a 4-4-2 formation, but with certain modifications since it could mean that Edwin Carmona is available or not.

This makes the decision more complicated since Agustín Almendra left training on Thursday with muscle aches and seems to be in doubt for Sunday.

River Plate likely lineup: Franco Armani; Milton Casco, Robert Rojas, Paulo Díaz, Fabrizio Angileri; Jorge Carrascal, Enzo Pérez, Nico De la Cruz; Julián Álvarez, Braian Romero, Matías Suárez

Boca Juniors probable lineup: Diego Rossi, Luis Advíncula, Carlos Izquierdoz, Marcos Rojo, Frank Fabra; Rodrigo Montes, Jorman Campuzano, Agustín Almendra, Edwin Cardona; Cristián Pavón, Nicolás Orsini

Head to head: Previous games: 255 River Plate wins: 83 (312 goals) Boca Juniors wins: 89 (355 goals) Draws: 83
