Platense beats Destroyer and returns to the first division

Platense achieved an exciting comeback to the Destroyer at the Cuscatlán stadium and consummated promotion to the Salvadoran first division after more than four decades.

A Marvin Molina header from a corner kick gave the Buenos Aires team victory until the 79th minute but Steve Alfaro matched the actions and added drama at the end of 90 minutes.

At minute 87, Colombian Camilo Delgado appeared in the small area to push the ball to the back of the goal and give the Viroleños the long-awaited promotion to the first division.

Up hill

It was a triumph suffered in which Platense came from less to more after Marvin Molina won in the jump to the defenders and sent the ball to the back of the goal defended by Jonathan Manuel Valle. It was 0-1 just at the beginning of the second half but the effort of the Aurinegro team was enough to overcome.

Destroyer had the first chance to score in minute 5 with a Marvin Molina header that goalkeeper Jonathan Manuel Valle deflected to a corner kick.

The game got off to an intense start and there was a blow to Jonathan Palma’s face in which referee Iván Barton only showed yellow cardboard.

The first warning from the Zacatecoluca team was until the 10th minute with a powerful shot from Roberto Melgar after Rafael Burgos accommodated the ball. The shot went just above guarded by the goalkeeper’s hand.

The first half left an even game with few scoring chances and they had a lot of respect.

The Destroyer of Puerto de La Libertad arrived motivated after being crowned champion of the Clausura 2021 of the second division in a dramatic series of penalty kicks and preventing the representative of Zacatecoluca from celebrating his direct return to the first division after 41 years of waiting.

In the complementary part, Platense had two clear opportunities to score. One of these actions was a shot by Melgar that went just wide, at minute 47.

The chances were lamented by the players of the Viroleño team who at minute 50 were already uphill after Marvin Molina’s score after a header for the 1-0 in favor of Destroyer.

Rafa Burgos had confidence and put in a shot that the squad was looking for but goalkeeper Gerson López showed off with a key save for his team, at minute 60.

Coach Juan Ramón Paredes decided to defend the advantage and that led to a greater volume of ball possession for the Zacatecoluca team that kept a constant loitering over the rival area.

The hero of the game was Camilo Delgado when he scored 2-1 in the 87th minute that certifies the rise of the representative of Zacatecoluca.

Last Sunday the national coach Juan Ramón Paredes led the Destroyer to his third title in the second division, but could not give him the second promotion in its history.
