Jovic, a collateral victim of Benzema’s excellent moment

Luka Jovic is still looking for his place at Real Madrid. He is training like never before to try to make a hole in the plans of Ancelotti and the coach is very happy with what he is seeing from the Serbian. However, their participation is not quite regular. Of course, when he has appeared, he has shown his best version since he signed for the white team in 2019.

There is one main reason why Jovic has only added 84 minutes in which we have been this season: Karim Benzema. The Frenchman, captain due to Marcelo’s injury, is unstoppable, experiencing the best season of his career. His ten goals and seven assists in which we have been in the course they have made it, even more so, irreplaceable. His excellent moment is blocking his teammate up front, who has also been affected by the change of system.

In recent matches Ancelotti is opting to play with only one striker. When he does it with two, it is because he chooses to place Vinicius as winger or Hazard or Asensio as playmaker. He has yet to make up his mind to line up his two nines together. In fact, Jovic is one of the few outfield players in the squad who has yet to make his debut as a starter this season. Vallejo, Marcelo, Ceballos and Mariano are in the same situation, with the difference that the Serbian is next to the first the only ones who have been available in nine out of ten games.

Against Sheriff and Espanyol, Ancelotti bet on him in the second half. He gave 24 minutes against the Moldovan team and 29 in Cornellá. In the first, he fired twice with great danger. In the second, he gave Benzema a break, letting him leave the area. His was the previous pass to both Madrid, and with his unchecking he eliminated a rival so that Karim had a somewhat clearer path. He assisted him on a previous occasion, but had gone by inches offside.

Jovic remains confident that his time will come. He would like to add more minutes, but the competition is fierce. He doesn’t lose patience and hopes for more opportunities as the season progresses and fatigue takes its toll on other forwards. He only has one objective: to show that he has the level to succeed in white.
