In the last 10 years, it is difficult for Mexico to repeat summoned to the Gold Cup

Very few players have repeated on the list of the Mexican National Team to face a Gold Cup.

Gerardo Martino presented the pre-list of the Mexican team for the Gold Cup 2021 with 60 players, both from Liga MX, as from MLS and the elements that are active in Europe. In spite of everything, regarding the final list that the ‘Tata’ gave in the 2019 edition, there are only three players who do not repeat, they are Fernando Navarro, Luis Montes and Raúl Jiménez.

Even in the last 10 years, the only coach who had two Gold Cups, did not repeat the 23 summoned between one edition and another. It was José Manuel ‘Chepo’ de la Torre who faced the competitions of 2011 and 2013, and changed all the players between tournaments.

From the goal to the front, the ‘Chepo’ did not repeat summoned in the two editions that he was in front of the Tricolor. In addition, his changes contrasted a lot, since for 2011 he brought players who were active in Europe such as Javier ‘Maza’ Rodríguez who was at PSV, Héctor Moreno from AZ Alkmaar or Carlos Salcido from Fulham, as well as Andrés Guarded from Deportivo La Coruña , Pablo Barrera from West Ham and Javier Hernández from Manchester United.

However, for 2013 it brought pure players from the Liga MX. De la Torre decided to risk everything with local talent.

By 2015, it was Miguel Herrera who commanded Mexico and two years later, Juan Carlos Osorio. Between those two calls, only two players repeated a call to represent the country.

Moisés Muñoz and Jesús Dueñas were chosen by both helmsmen. Outside of them, no other player shared calls in the most important Concacaf tournament at the national team level. Finally, with a list of 60 players it was almost impossible for the ‘Tata’ not to repeat the line-up. From this list he will make a cut that will remain in 23 players and they will be the ones who command the next Gold Cup.
