Germany had a huge scare: Hungary almost took him out of the Eurocup

In a long-suffering way, Germany he got into the round of 16 of the Eurocup, as second in group F, with a 2-2 draw against Hungary, who was winning most of the game, played this Wednesday in Munich.

Adam Szalai gave the first surprise of the night by scoring Hungary’s first goal with a header (11). Germany was slow to draw, but they did it through Kai Havertz (66), although immediately after András Schõfer (68) put the Magyars ahead again.

When the match was already in its final stretch, Leon Goretzka (84) scored the second for the Germans, who saved them from elimination.

In addition to the 2-2 between Germany and Hungary, France and Portugal signed the same result this Wednesday in Budapest. Therefore, the ‘group of death’ finished with France as the first in the group with 5 points, followed by Germany, with 4, the same as the Portuguese, who went to the eighth as one of the best third parties.

Hungary was bottom with 2 units, being one of the surprises of this European Championship despite being left out.

It was not possible to forget the incidents of the last hours around the game. An activist jumped from the stands onto the pitch with a large rainbow flag as the Hungarian anthem was played.

Tuesday the UEFA had not authorized the city of Munich to illuminate the Allianz Arena with the rainbow colors of the LGTB community, in protest of the Magyar country’s policy against sexual minorities.

The activist’s incident did not deconcentrate the Hungarians, who struck first. Roland Sallai put in a deep cross from the right and Szalai slipped between the center-backs to jump into the plate and head for goal (11).

Germany set out to control possession and wasted no time in besieging the Hungarian bow. Center-back Mats Hummels headed the crossbar after a corner kick taken by Joshua Kimmich (21).

Right after, Matthias Ginter received in the small area but goalkeeper Péter Gulacsi managed to stop in two halves. The Teutons locked up Hungary, which from time to time gave a kick to the counterattack, as in a shot by Sallai in the front of the German area that forced Manuel Neuer to stretch, who again wore a captain’s armband with rainbow colors ( 39).

After passing through the changing rooms, no team gave up scoring one more goal. On a free-kick from Kimmich, Gulacsi made a gruesome exit to clear and left his goal clear for Havertz, who pierced the nets after being put on by Hummels (66).

But the relief of Germany, who had just placed second in the table, instantly faded. Hungary took a center, caught the German defense out of position and, after a wall with Szalai, Schõfer scored with a soft header taking advantage of Neuer’s poor start (68). Schõfer’s incredulous celebration perfectly explained the huge surprise that was happening in Munich.

Those led by Joachim Löw were in a rush for the equalizer. After unsuccessful attempts, Jamal Musiala, who had just entered the field, served from the left, Timo Werner failed to connect and the ball fell to Goretzka to shoot low with his right hand (84).

A goal that put Germany on the hour in the round of 16, where England awaits him next Tuesday (11 am from Colombia) at London’s Wembley Stadium.
