The Uruguayan national team strategist, Óscar Washington Tabárez, said on Wednesday that Ecuador, the rival that Celeste will face for the tenth round of the South American qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, is “one of the best there is.”

“I think in some aspects of the game he is the best there is in the tie. For instance, when facing the rival team in possession, he has very good collective movements for the pressure on the rival, from the forwards to the defenders ”, he expressed during a press conference held virtually.

He added that the Ecuadorian players, of whom he has seen their evolution, have achieved “very important things” at that level and highlighted the “physical potential”Of the youngest footballers.

He also highlighted the present of the tricolor team in which “beyond the oscillations” of the competition “so difficult and even” they have remained in the direct classification area.

In the same way, the Master did not miss the occasion to point out the “disadvantageous” conditions of the triple days that, in his opinion, they oblige the different technical bodies to “manage the players’ times thinking about the next game”.

Meanwhile, he stressed that the Celeste is working on the position that the team must have “as a whole and each one individually” to obtain results and aspects such as attitude, psychological, confidence, respect for the rival and “not give any game for win ”before playing it, in addition to the tactical strategies.

“There has always been the need of the team that when we attack and lose the ball we put immediate pressure, but then the team groups well from the center line when they take us back and that is a strong point,” he said.

Tabárez applauded the return of the public to the stadium stands during these dates in different countries, a fact that, in his opinion, “motivates the players.”

“They need that return that the public’s celebration gives and when that does not happen it is celebrated among those who are on the field, but it is not the same. For me, professional football without an audience is not football ”, he concluded.

This Thursday, at the Campeón del Siglo stadium, located on the outskirts of Montevideo, Uruguay will try to take third place in the standings from its counterpart from Ecuador, in the match corresponding to the tenth date of the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. (D)
