Colombia asked Conmebol for the “immediate suspension” of Nestor Pitana after the controversy in the match against Brazil

On Colombia the impotence still lasts for the defeat to Brazil on the fourth day of the group stage of the America Cup. But beyond the result, the anger is due to the decision of the Argentine referee Nestor Pitana in an action of the game that resulted in the goal of Roberto Firmino. Such is the discontent that the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) took action on the matter.

As reported in a statement, the FCF asked the Conmebol the “Immediate suspension” from Pitana, since he considers that the decision to continue the game when the ball bounced off his body was wrong and favored the Canarinha.

That play of the minute 77 ended with a goal from Firmino which meant the transitional 1-1. The entity that regulates Colombian soccer understands that the rebound generated a “Promising attack” for the cast of Tite and that concept is the one that generates the main discord.

“From the VAR they even indicated to the referee that the pass from the Brazilian player that bounced off the referee was going to be received by a Colombian. Nevertheless, the central judge and the VAR referees decided to omit the application of Law 9 of the game rules, directly influencing the outcome of the match ”, they argued from the FCF.

One of the first to express his discontent with this sequence was the footballer Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, who after the defeat of his team took place analyzed the decision of the Nestor Pitana to give continuity to the game.

“We stand still because the rule is that if you hit the referee, it repeats. It is unfortunate. He did not know what to do, he was between a rock and a hard place. He is a referee of experience and World Cups, and he says play. That goal breaks down all the work and effort that the team was doing ”, lamented the Juventus player. Beyond what one of the referents expressed, the protest has reached the highest spheres of South American football.

THE COMMUNICATION OF THE COLOMBIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION (FCF)

The Colombian Football Federation is allowed to report that it proceeded to file before the highest body of South American football a note of protest for the arbitration during the match on June 23 of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021.
