Cata Domínguez will return to the Mexican National Team three years later

The Cruz Azul defender was called up to replace Johan Vásquez, who will be out due to injury for the start of the Qatar 2022 tie

Julio César Domínguez received his first call to the Mexican team in the era of Gerardo Martino, who elected the vice-captain of Blue Cross to cover the loss of the central defender Johan Vasquez.

ESPN has been able to confirm that Domínguez will concentrate tonight at the High Performance Center, at the end of the duel between La Machine Celeste and Pachuca at the Azteca Stadium. In accordance with TUDN, Vásquez, a new player for Genoa in Italy, presented muscle discomfort and therefore has been withdrawn from the squad for the FIFA Date in September.

The 33-year-old Cruz Azul defender had not worn the Mexican National Team shirt since November 2018, when he was summoned by interim Ricardo Ferretti for the two friendly matches against Argentina played in this South American country. In fact, the only minutes that ‘Cata’ Domínguez has played in an official tournament date back to the 2015 Copa América, when he played all three matches of the Group Stage.

The Tricolor will face the teams of Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panama on September 2, 5 and 8, respectively, at the start of the World Cup Qualifying towards Qatar 2022.

The first duel will be behind closed doors at Azteca due to the pending sanction from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for the discriminatory shouts at the rival goalkeeper in the last Pre-Olympic Tournament in Guadalajara, and then the National Team will visit Costa Rica and Panama in these first three CONCACAF Final Hex games leading up to next year’s World Cup.

The concentration of the 28 players called up by ‘Tata’ Martino began yesterday at the CAR, where the players will report as the participation with their clubs ends this weekend.
