The Arsenal player, Marcelo Flores, was included in Canada’s call for the Olympics and the possibility of him representing Mexico is moving away

The Arsenal footballer, Marcelo Flores placeholder image, was included in Canada’s preliminary list for the 2021 Gold Cup. The 17-year-old has the possibility of representing Mexico, England and Canada, the latter being the only squad that has considered him for the Senior National Team.

CONCACAF revealed on its official site the preliminary lists of the squads that will participate in the next edition of the most important competition at the national level and highlights the Canadian team for calling Flores, who works in the U-18 category of the ‘Gunners ‘and is considered one of the most talented footballers in the Arsenal academy.

On the other hand, Marcelo Flores has trained with Mexico’s junior teams, but he has never been considered by ‘Tata’ Martino for the Senior National Team, nor is he one of Jaime Lozano’s options for the Tokyo Olympics.

In the event that Flores is included in Canada’s final list for the Gold Cup, the Aztec would be ruled out to represent Mexico or England if he has minutes in the official CONCACAF competition.

Prior to the Concacaf Pre-Olympic, Mauro Biello, coach of the Canadian U23, publicly expressed the interest of the Canadian federation in taking over the services of Marcelo.

Marcelo Flores is a player that we have seen, who of course we would like to have in the group, he is a player who is being sought by other organizations, at the moment Canada is interested in Marcelo, there will be opportunities along the way for the young player and Canada will do their best to try to integrate him into the team, “he said.

In the 2020/21 campaign, Flores, who coached several times with the Arsenal first team, played 13 games in the U-18 Premier League and one commitment in the Premier League 2.
