The Miami Dolphins wide receiver pairing is establishing itself as the best in the entire league, breaking all-time records

Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill are the favorite attacking partners for their quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, who is competing for MVP this season.

After two growing seasons for Tua Tagovailoa on the nflhis excellent campaign in 22/23 has already made him one of the contenders to rise as MVP, and much of this blame rests with his two main receivers: Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.

Waddle was chosen in the sixth position of the 2021 draft as one of the most explosive receivers of his crop that had set all-time records in Alabama. Hillby contrast, came from Kansas to Miami last offseason as one of the best players at this position in the entire league, with the best deep play in the league thanks to his enormous speed.

Both players have changed the face of an offensive unit led by Frank Smithattack coordinator for the Florida team, who has been able to perfectly adapt this duo in the scheme of the Dolphins.

We cannot know if Tua’s star level is explained by his elite receivers or has been a individual exercise in which the quarterback has managed to find his way. What we can assure is that Tagovailoa, Hill and Waddle form a lethal trident for rival defenses and are a headache for any coach.

Hill, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, leads the league in receptions and receiving yards with 1,148. He’s scored four touchdowns, and has been a breath of fresh air for Tua in the deep game, one of Tyreek’s specialties.

The receiver is unstoppable in pitches behind the secondary, where he asserts the speed of his legs. He is the second wide receiver in the entire NFL with the most targets in this third of the field.

Tua has benefited greatly from Hill’s presence in the downfield, and the quarterback is getting a chance to ‘walk’ his arm powersomething that we had already seen in his university days in Alabama.

His duo in the Wide Receiver, Jaylen Waddle, is showing why he is one of the best young receivers in the entire competition. After ten games played this season, the former Alabama player has 878 receiving yards and six touchdown scores, which with 17.2 yards average per catch, make him one of the most effective in the league.

One of Waddle’s biggest strengths is his ability to get yardage after catching the ball, with an uncanny ability to dodge opponents that ranks seventh in the entire NFL in this area.

With Waddle and Hill lined up on the field, Mike McDaniel, head coach of the team, has a huge range of plays to execute. After ten games played, the Dolphins offensive unit is the seventh in points per game (25.2), the third in yards per contest (391.5) and the quarter in touchdowns per game (3.1)

A RECORD TEAM

After the first nine days played, the duo of Hill and Waddle accumulated 1,916 receiving yards. This was the highest figure achieved by a wide receiver duo from 1961 after this period of nine games.

The best record in this space of time is supported by two Houston Texans players, Charlie Hennigan and Bill Gromanthat they caught 1,950 yards in 1961.

Another shocking fact was the one harvested after the last day of the Miami Dolphins in the victory against the Cleveland Browns. With 2,026 yards caught through the air between Hill and Waddle, the pair already accumulate more passing yards combined than 10 (!) franchises NFL: Texans, Patriots, Steelers, Panthers, Cowboys, Ravens, Falcons, Giants, Bears and Titans.

The reality is that this pair of receivers has returned the illusion to a fan base that has not seen their team win a playoff round since 2001. The Miami Dolphins are a historic franchise in the NFL that accumulates two champion rings and until the beginning of the century they were a regular in the postseason.

In the 2020 draft, the Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa in the fifth position of the first round, and deposited in the hands of the Alabama quarterback much of the future of their team. The trident formed with their recipients raise expectations to a set of Miami that aspires to everything this season
