Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard listens to what people are saying.
The fans want him to be given more chances to carry the ball.
“I like it, keep saying it,” the Cowboys running back said after Thursday’s team practice at The Star in Frisco.
Pollard finished the 2021 season setting career highs in carries (130), rushing yards (719), receptions (39), receiving yards (337), touches (169), and receiving yards (321).
The fans and Pollard want more.
The Cowboys are expected to heed the wishes of both, but not at the expense of Ezekiel Elliott, who is still considered the team’s starting running back.
Both running backs are necessary in this offense.
When it comes to Pollard, becoming more of a running back and pass catcher is in his future plans.
If Pollard can produce better numbers in 2022, it increases his value not only with the Cowboys but also in the league.
“I definitely feel like any opportunity I’m given, I’m going to do my best to make the most of it,” Pollard said.
“The more I get, the more I can benefit the team.”
Pollard became a fan favorite last season.
It was nothing against Elliott, but when he struggled with a sprained knee ligament, the team’s fans clamored for more action for Pollard.
Pollard averaged 5.53 yards per rush attempt, the fifth-most in the NFL and the third-most in a season in franchise history.
Pollard has spoken with his agent about what the future might hold.
It’s doubtful Pollard will receive a contract similar to Elliott’s.
Remember the summer of 2019 when Elliott was signed to a six-year, $90 million contract with.
A contract of that magnitude has yet to be surpassed by any running back in the NFL.
