There was no revenge from Jared Goff to his former team; the Rams defeated the Lions at SoFi Stadium

Jared Goff returned to Los Angeles to face his old team, the Rams, with his Detroit Lions in front of 70,540 fans who were present Sunday at SoFi Stadium. Goff was looking to somehow avenge the way things turned out and ended up leaving empty-handed as his team fell 28-19.

The Lions were 0-6, led by Goff with 1,505 passing yards, seven touchdown passes and four interceptions. Things did not improve for the Lions (0-7) and they remain winless on the season, while the Rams improved to 6-1.

The desire to reverse the current situation for his team could have served Goff at least to pull his thorn against his old team a bit and for much of the game it seemed that he was succeeding. However, the enjoyment lasted only until the close of the second quarter when the Rams rallied 17-13 after the conversion point.

The score stayed close to 17-16 after the visit scored a 41-yard three-point conversion four seconds into halftime. The lions regained the lead in the third quarter, but were again rallied by the Rams offense.

With that score, Stafford reached 300 career touchdown passes. The veteran quarterback finished the game with 334 yards and three touchdowns. Goff added 268 yards through the air.

For the Rams, Cooper Kupp finished with 10 receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns, which included scoring the lead in the fourth period.

The quarterback was traded, between the close of the 2020 season and the start of 2021, for Stafford, who also faced his former team.

Goff was the quarterback when the Rams reached the Super Bowl of the 2018 season. In that game that took place in Atlanta, the Rams lost to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and scored just seven points.

The Los Angeles quarterback received a four-year, $ 134 million contract prior to the following season before being traded by Stafford. Since then, his efficiency has declined and some close associates have pointed out that he lost the confidence of his coach Sean McVay and his teammates as a leader.

The Rams failed to qualify for the 2019 playoffs, which heralded the player’s future. In 2020, the Rams were barely able to qualify for the postseason after winning the Wild Card Game and making the playoffs, but they did not make it past Game 1 and from that point on, Goff’s fate had already been cast.

Although Goff had said during the week leading up to the Rams game that he had no resentment about the way things turned out regarding his departure, he did feel disrespected by the Los Angeles franchise.
