The Philadelphia Eagles strengthen their defense with Kyzir White, former Chargers player

The Philadelphia Eagles beefed up their run defense on Saturday with the signing of former Chargers linebacker Kyzir White for the 2022 NFL season.

The player arrives to round out a defense that in 2021 was ninth among the 32 teams in the NFL and that seeks to cover the loss of linebacker Alex Singleton, leader in tackles of the Eagles, who emigrated to the Denver Broncos last week.

Kyzir White is 26 years old, he arrived in the NFL in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft to play with the Chargers. He is an aggressive linebacker who in the 2021 season had 144 tackles combined, seven more than Singleton, and had 90 solo.

The native of Macungie, Pennsylvania, is the second defensive player hired by the Eagles for the 2022 campaign; Two days ago they tied up 27-year-old outside linebacker Haason Reddick, who last year played for the Carolina Panthers.

White and Reddick will join a department that promises to be one of the toughest to beat on the ground in the NFL and also combines experience and youth.

In the Eagles’ defense, 24-year-old wing Josh Sweat, selected Pro Bowl 2021; he came to the team in the fourth round of the 2018 Draft and had his best season in 2021 with 45 combined tackles, 19 solo and 7.5 sacks.

Also shining is Derek Barnett, 25, a Super Bowl LII champion, another Philadelphia defensive end who is undisputed on coach Nick Sirianni’s team.

Not forgetting the line that has tackles like Javon Hargrave, Pro Bowl 2021; Fletcher Cox, a 31-year veteran who has been with the team since 2012; and 22-year-old rookie Milton Williams, in just his second season with Philadelphia.

In more NFL free agency moves this Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys released veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein, 34; he was taken by the New York Jets for the 2022 campaign.

With Dallas, Zuerlein made 63 of 76 field goal attempts last season for 82.9 percent shooting.

The Lincoln, Nebraska native and 2017 Pro Bowler was the first kicker in the NFL to record two 58+ yard field goals in the same game.

The Green Bay Packers signed young cornerback Keisean Nixon, 24, a former Las Vegas Raiders.
