Sports Writing, March 25 (EFE).- The Chicago Bears hired former Saints quarterback Trevor Siemian this Friday and paved the way for 33-year-old Nick Foles, winner of Super Bowl LII.

Siemian, 30, signed for the next two seasons and four million dollars. She is Bears coach Matt Eberflus’ bid to back up 23-year-old rookie quarterback Justin Fields.

Foles has one season left on his contract and in this free agency Chicago has looked for a way out for him, something he has not yet achieved.

The intention is that Justin Fields, taken in the first round of the Draft last year, gradually establishes himself in control of the team.

The rookie, out of Ohio State and wearing the number one jersey, had 1,870 passing yards, seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2021, his NFL debut year.

Eberflus expects Siemian to be a reliable backup because of his experience with the Denver Broncos, with whom he played from 2015-2017; he had his best season in 2016 when he passed for 3,401 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In 2019 Trevor was a substitute for the New York Jets, the same role he played in 2021 with the Saints, with whom he had 1,154 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

In other relevant movements of the free agency of the NFL this Friday, the Cleveland Browns hired the passer Jacoby Brissett, who in 2021 was with the Miami Dolphins.

Brissett boasts a Super Bowl LI ring from the 2016 season, when he played for the New England Patriots, a season in which Tom Brady was suspended several games for the deflated ball case that violated NFL requirements.

In that year, today’s 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett filled in for Brady during his suspension. Brissett played three regular season games in which he passed for 400 yards.

Also on Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs signed former Carolina Panthers linebacker Jermaine Carter, 27.

The New Orleans Saints settled with safety Daniel Sorensen, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs.

In Minnesota, the Vikings locked up former Green Bay Packers cornerback Chandon Sullivan.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to a deal with 27-year-old linebacker Jarrad Davis, who was with the New York Jets in 2021, and the New York Giants have signed former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Richie James.
