Steelers honor Dwayne Haskins with No. 3 on their players’ helmets

Lyou Pittsburgh Steelers will honor Dwayne Haskinshis late teammate, wearing the number 3 on the back of his helmets for the entire 2022 season.

Haskins died in April when he was hit by a truck on Interstate 595 in Florida. A toxicology report found that Haskins was legally drunk at the time of his death.

“I am devastated and speechless by the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” said Steelers coach, mike tomlin, in an April release. “He quickly became a part of the Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our best workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to many.” I am truly heartbroken.”

Haskins’ arrival in Pittsburgh

Haskins, a 2019 first-round pick from Washingtonspent the 2021 season in Pittsburgh as the third quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger Y Mason Rudolf.

He had spent his first two seasons in Washington with 16 games in the NFL13 of them as a starter.

He has 2,804 yards after completing 267 passes in 444 attempts, with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The Steelers re-signed Haskins for a year in March, and was expected to compete for the starting job after the retirement of Roethlisberger.

Haskins’ last moments

Before he died, Haskins spent time with his teammates in Florida at the quarterback’s house. Mitch Trubisky for a weekend of bonding and training.

“Spent your last moments by your side and I can’t help but think how selfless you were in those moments,” the receiver tweeted. Chase Claypool at that moment. “All you cared about was making sure everyone around you was okay and I can’t thank you enough for that. You are what I strive to be.”
