Patriots vs. Bills: 4 matchups that could decide Monday's game - Pats Pulpit

Twelve weeks down in the NFL, and we’ve already had a season to remember. This year has been topsy-turvy, with new contenders seeming to fall and rise every week. We’ve written off the Patriots and Chiefs before they both surged back. We’ve touted the Raiders and Chargers before they both crashed down to earth. But on Monday, December 6th, we’ll see a matchup that will provide some serious playoff picture clarity: the Buffalo Bills vs. the New England Patriots.

This game is already being hyped as one of the games of the year. It is a major matchup that will attract massive viewership numbers, and of course, a ton of betting action. If you’re looking to bet on this big game, there are numerous great operators offering odds or promotions for NFL games. 888Sport is one operator extremely popular with NFL bettors that will provide great markets to bet on this exciting matchup. For the bettors and fans out there, we’re providing a breakdown of this huge game, including predictions. Let’s get into it.

This game between the Patriots and Buffalo Bills is set to play a major role in determining who will win the AFC East and potentially even who will be the #1 seed in the AFC and receive the much sought-after bye. The game is set to take place Monday, December 6th, at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. Current odds have the Bills favoured at -3.5.

If you had told someone earlier in the season just how relevant this game would be, they would’ve been shocked. For a time, it looked as though the Patriots were done. The Bills were sitting at 4-2 through Week 6, while the Patriots were 2-4. They looked just about out of the playoff picture.

But then, Bill Belichick and the Patriots began to do what they’ve done for the past two decades: dominate. Led by an improved performance from rookie quarterback Mac Jones, a hard-nosed effort from a talented defense, and the usual Patriot efficiency, New England has reeled off six straight wins. They haven’t just beaten teams either. They’re running up the score.

In the four games the Patriots played in November, their average margin of victory was 26 points. They look like the real deal, and now, at 8-4, they sit atop the division and are staring up only at the Ravens for the #1 seed in the AFC.

Meanwhile, the Bills, who were 5-2 after Week 7, have seen some of their shine fade. They’re 2-2 since Week 7, including a massively embarrassing loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars where their vaunted offense only scored six points. They’re currently 7-4, very much still in the hunt for the division and sitting in the Wildcard spot.

While the shine has faded a little from the Bills, that doesn’t mean they’re not a major threat. They have the #2 scoring offense in the NFL and the defense that lets off the 2nd least amount of points. The only team ahead of them in those rankings? The Patriots. The Bills are led by star quarterback Josh Allen, who, although falling off a bit from his MVP-caliber season last year, is still one of the biggest playmakers in the league.

This game features two massively vaunted defenses that are capable of shutting down lesser offenses. However, both teams are high-scoring offenses that can put up points against anyone. We predict a game that will be close in score, relatively low in scoring, and a wild and fun game to watch.

Both teams know the importance of this game. They are longtime rivals who are fighting for control over their division and eyeing a chance to position themselves as the likeliest Super Bowl contender. The winner of this game takes the lead in the division, and while they still have one more game against each other this year, this matchup will be an important first test.

Prediction: While the Patriots are the hotter team right now and arguably the hottest in the league, we are riding with the favorited Bills this game with a final score of Buffalo 27- New England 24.

The difference in this game? We believe it will be the quarterbacks. While Mac Jones has shown himself highly capable, on the road in a rowdy and cold Buffalo atmosphere, against a defense capable of stopping the New England run, he might struggle.

Josh Allen is a baller, and even though he has been turnover-prone this season, he’s still the best player in this game. Expect a close battle that ultimately ends with Buffalo coming out on top due to a gutsy performance from their young star QB.
