Mark Andrews signs contract extension with Ravens

One of the Ravens’ primary offensive weapons has just extended its tenure on the team. Via Ian Rapoport of NFL MediaOn Monday, TE Mark Andrews signed a contract extension for 4 years and 56 million dollars. Andrews is set to earn $ 3,384 million this 2021 in the final year of his rookie contract, but now, following this move, he is guaranteed to be a Baltimore player until the 2025 NFL Season.

In addition, with an annual average of $ 14 million in base salary, Andrews becomes the third highest paid tight end in the NFL, behind only Travis Kelce and George Kittle: “We are delighted to announce a four-year contract extension with Mark Andrews on his birthday, ”said Baltimore GM Eric DeCosta. “Mark is exactly the type of player we want to keep as Raven for the long term. He is competitive, passionate, talented, and a leader. We are very excited to have him in Baltimore for the next five years. “

Andrews, a graduate of Oklahoma, who turned 26 just yesterday, September 6, came to the NFL in 2018 as a third-round pick. In three seasons with Baltimore he accumulates 156 total receptions for 2,105 yards and 20 touchdowns, becoming one of the best aerial companions of QB Lamar Jackson, who surely is now the new priority for a renewal.

Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starting QB of the 49ers

Unlike other teams like the Patriots, Jaguars or Broncos, during this offseason the 49ers never gave an official announcement on who would be their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season. For several months, HC Kyle Shanahan has always hinted that Jimmy Garoppolo was scheduled to be QB1, but only yesterday could it be confirmed: the 49ers released their practice and media schedules for this week and it is Jimmy G who will speak with the reporters tomorrow Wednesday.

Why is this noteworthy? In the NFL, the starting QB of a team is the one who speaks to the media on Wednesdays, and it will be Garoppolo who will speak to the press this September 8 at around 11:30 a.m. Central Mexico, thus putting an end to any kind of doubt. Also, it should be noted that Shanahan never gave an official confirmation announcement because it “does not create any strategic advantage” but now it is safe to say that we will see Garoppolo starting next Sunday when the 49ers visit the Lions at Ford Field.

However, it will also be important to continue to monitor the health of Trey Lance, who last week was seen using a kind of “chip” in one of his fingers after injuring it. Yesterday, Lance participated in the team’s training session, already without any type of object covering his hand, however, the practice was limited and he did not make a single pass. How far will the 49ers go with Jimmy Garoppolo?

Duane Brown returns to Seahawks training

One of the NFL’s greatest novels this offseason has apparently come to an end. Seattle left tackle Duane Brown, who had not participated in team training since July due to dissatisfaction with his contract situation, returned to practice Monday. “Yes, he is ready to play. He’s ready to play, ”said HC Pete Carroll at the end of practice, through Curtis Crabtree of PFT and Sports Radio KJR.

Caroll noted that Brown will play the Colts next Sunday. However, the fact that this news has been confirmed does not mean that the problem is completely over. Brown is still dissatisfied with his contract, but unlike before, now there is progress in the negotiations. Jeremy Fowler from ESPN reported that representatives for Brown and the Seahawks have engaged in discussions about an adjustment to Brown’s contract for 2021, who is scheduled to earn $ 10 million in base salary in the last year of his agreement.

“We’re really ready to play football right now,” Carroll said when asked if the team was in talks with Brown’s agent. “That’s where we are. Everything that needed to be taken care of is taken care of. Here we go”.

Eventually, the Seahawks also got another player back. Safety Quandre Diggs ended his holdout this Monday. Diggs wants a new contract too, so he hadn’t practiced for the last two weeks. However, all indications are that he is finalizing an injury clause in his current settlement. As such, Seattle expects him to be in their lineup for the season opener against Indianapolis.

Dallas Goedert, unhappy about his contractual situation with the Eagles

A few days ago there was talk about Zach Ertz and how he fixed his dissatisfaction with the Eagles throughout this offseason. It’s not the only tight end issue Philadelphia is facing, however: Unlike Ertz, teammate Dallas Goedert is still looking for a new contract extension.

Goedert said last June that discussions on a new agreement were underway, but things do not appear to have gathered momentum. Goedert said during a press conference Monday, via Jeff McLane’s Philadelphia Inquirer, who thought those conversations would have paid off by now, but “the team decided to take a different path.” There is nothing to stop the Eagles from getting back on track and resuming negotiations with Goedert on a deal, however talks about contract extensions are often postponed during the regular season.

This 2021, the South Dakota State graduate is destined to earn $ 1.24 million in base salary in what so far is his last year of contract with the Eagles. In three seasons with the team and 42 games played, Goedert has 137 receptions for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns. Should Philadelphia renew it long-term?

Justice Hill misses 2021 NFL Season

Heading into the regular season, the Ravens’ backfield is one of the hardest hit. After Baltimore lost JK Dobbins for the entire season, HC John Harbaugh said he had “full confidence” in the other running backs’ ability to carry the load. However, this Monday, Ian Rapoport from NFL Media, reported that Justice Hill tore his Achilles tendon in yesterday’s training session, so it will also be down for all of 2021.

Hill was slated to be the team’s RB3, behind Gus Edwards and Ty’Son Williams, who are currently the only two active running backs left on the roster. As such, the Ravens need depth at position and are on the scene. Via Albert Breer de NFL Network, Baltimore received visits at its facility from veterans Le’Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman, as well as Elijah Holyfield.

Without a doubt, the Ravens must make a move and fast, because next Monday, September 13, they open their regular season against the Raiders, and they will very surely not want their running attack to fall only on quarterback Lamar Jackson. Who should Baltimore sign to fill in the losses of Hill and Dobbins?

Saints sign Desmond Trufant

In more NFL news, as of yesterday the Saints had only three available cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, so they scoured the market for available free agents to add depth at the position. Finally, this Monday, multiple reports indicated that Desmond Trufant worked with New Orleans, and via Mike Triplett, of ESPN NFL NationTrufant signed with the team, joining a corps of cornerbacks made up of Marshon Lattimore, Ken Crawley and Paulson Adebo.

It’s been a busy few days for Trufant. The Bears cut him from their roster on August 31 after he left the team on August 13 to be with his father, who sadly passed away two days later. Trufant no longer returned to Chicago before being cut. Whatever happens, however, he is guaranteed $ 3.5 million in base salary this season after signing a 2-year contract in 2020 with the Lions.

Trufant, who will turn 31 on Friday, came to the NFL in 2013 and played his first seven seasons in Atlanta before being sent to Detroit in 2020, where he only managed to play six games. Throughout his career, 103 games played, the graduate of the University of Washington records 349 tackles, 14 INTs, 83 passes defended and 3 forced fumbles. Will he make an impact on Sean Payton’s defense?
