Marshon Lattimore signs Saints extension

The 2021 NFL Season couldn’t have started in a better way for the Saints. First, this Sunday they destroyed the Packers 3-38 in the match of Week 1 of the 2021 regular season, but, in addition, a long-awaited contract extension was announced shortly after. Via Adam Schefter of ESPN, CB Marshon Lattimore signed a new agreement with New Orleans for 5 years and 97.6 million dollars, with 68.3 guaranteed.

Following this move, Lattimore will be a Saints player through the 2026 NFL Season. However, he will still play this season under the final year of his rookie contract that he signed in 2017, and is destined to earn $ 990,000 in base salary. However, starting in 2022 he will average $ 19.52 million per season.

The Ohio State graduate has more than deserved this extension. He came to New Orleans as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and since then has registered a total of 230 tackles, 55 passes defended, 10 INTs, 5 forced fumbles, 4 recovered and has been a Pro Bowler three times. Additionally, in his first season with the team, he was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and to this day, he remains a key player in Sean Payton’s defense. What do you think of the new deal between Lattimore and the Saints?

Jordan Mailata signs extension with Philadelphia

This Saturday the future of the Eagles offensive line took a very firm step into the future. Via Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio, LT Jordan Mailata signed a contract extension with Philadelphia for 4 years and 64 million dollars, with 40.85 fully guaranteed.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Mailata had a difficult and unlikely path heading into the NFL. The Australian came to the Eagles as a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and was seen as a large, athletic prospect, yet although he grew up playing rugby, he had never played a single football game in his life.

However, by now, Philadelphia is grateful for taking the risk of selecting him. After not having participated at all in 2018 or 2019, Mailata took over the position of starting left tackle last season, and his performances in a year were enough to secure a future in this team, with which he now has a contract. through the 2025 NFL Season. Were the Eagles successful in extending Mailata’s contract?

Michael Gallup, outside 3 to 5 weeks

The 2021 NFL Season didn’t start off in the best way for the Cowboys. After being defeated 29-31 in the Week 1 game against Tom Brady’s Buccaneers, the loss of one of his key men on offense was also announced. With information from Michael Gehlken of the Dallas morning news, WR Michael Gallup will be absent for three to five weeks due to a calf strain.

For the weeks of action that Gallup will miss, he’s a great prospect to land on the Injured Reserve, as once a player is placed there, he can only return to the team’s 53-man roster after missing three weeks of game at least. Last Thursday, Gallup collaborated with 4 receptions for 36 total yards, however, while the Colorado State graduate is absent, it will be WR Cedrick Wilson, Noah Brown and Simi Fehoko who increase their participation on the field of play.

Gallup, 25, came to Dallas as a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and to date he has 162 total receptions for 2,493 yards and 13 touchdowns. Will the Cowboys miss this drop considering they have Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb as main receivers?

La’el Collins, suspended five games

The news for the Cowboys just keeps getting worse. Last Friday, the NFL reported that RT La’el Collins was suspended for five games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. This means that Collins will be available until Week 7, however, it is the team’s bye week, so he will return to regular season action only until October 31, when Dallas visits Minnesota on the SNF of the Week 8.

With this prolonged absence, it will be backup tackles Terence Steele and Ty Nsekhe who will compete for the starting job in the following weeks. In addition, the absence of Collins means that Dallas will not manage to have an offensive line of pure starters at least until the eighth game of this season, as it should be remembered that in Week 1 it was RG Zach Martin who missed the game after being placed in the COVID-19 Reserve.

For his part, Collins, an LSU graduate, arrived in Dallas as an undrafted free agent in the 2015 NFL Draft. Since then he has participated in 61 games as a starter, and his loss weighs even more knowing that this 2021 has an impact of 6.34 MDD on the team salary cap. How will the Cowboys get over this tough loss?

Nyheim Hines signs extension with Indianapolis

Last Friday, just before the start of the Colts regular season, the team extended a contract to one of its key players on offense. Via Tom Pelissero of NFL HalfRB Nyheim Hines signed a 3-year, 18.6 million dollar deal, with 12 guaranteed. With this move, Hines will be tied to Indianapolis through the 2024 NFL Season. In addition, with an annual average of $ 6.2 million in base salary, he becomes the 11th highest paid running back in the league.

The NC State alumnus is not technically the Colts’ RB1, yet he is one of their most important offensive contributors. He led the team last year with 63 receptions and was second with 862 total yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns. He also averaged 10.0 yards on 30 punt returns and 23.3 yards on three kick returns.

For the Colts, this means their running back body is more covered than ever. In the first instance they have Jonathan Taylor as their most outstanding running back, who last year rushed 1,169 total yards for 11 TDs. Besides, they have Marlon Mack back, who in 2020 broke his Achilles tendon in Week 1. What do you think of the new agreement between Hines and Indianapolis? What can we expect from this backfield in the 2021 NFL Season?

Vikings HOF Mick Tingelhoff passes away

In more NFL news, this Saturday the death of a Minnesota historic was confirmed. We’re referring to former offensive lineman Mick Tingelhoff, who died at age 81. The Nebraska graduate was on the Vikings roster from 1962 to 1978, never missing a single game in his entire career.

The Tingelhoff thing is to emphasize. After not being drafted in the 1962 Draft, he came to the team as an undrafted free agent and earned the starting center job during training camps, which he held until his eventual retirement 17 seasons later.

In total, Tingelhoof played 240 games as a starter, managed to recover 13 fumbles, was 6 times Pro Bowler, had 7 All-Pro appointments, was an NFL champion in 1969, Minnesota retired his number 53 and, if that was not enough, after 32 years of eligibility, in 2015 he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. What do you think of Tingelhoff’s career with the Vikings?

Injuries from Week 1 of the 2021 season

The 2021 NFL Season has finally kicked off, and the Week 1 games thus far have left us with countless milestones. We can find winners, losers, but also injured. In a sport with so much contact, it is inevitable that each week several players get hurt. Therefore, in this space we will review the most relevant injuries from this weekend’s games:

  • QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, WFT. Bad news for Washington. Fitzpatrick left Sunday’s game in the second quarter after being hit by pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu. After an initial diagnosis, the injury is considered a hip subluxation, reported Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, who added that “the hope is that nothing has been broken.” However, HC Ron Rivera noted after the game that the team will know more about the injury until today when they perform an MRI.
  • WR Jerry Jeudy, Broncos. Jeudy had to leave Sunday’s game on a stretcher with a lower leg injury sustained in the third quarter after a 20-yard reception. When tackled by CB James Bradberry, Jeudy’s right leg was caught between the cornerback and the ground as they both fell. At the moment the radiographs performed were negative, but more diagnoses are still missing to know in detail the injury of the Denver receptor.
  • CB Jeff Okudah, DET. Terrible news for the Lions that already have one of the most limited rosters in the NFL. Yesterday Sunday Okudah was injured early in the fourth quarter after having participated in 48 snaps in the match. This Monday morning the worst was confirmed: a rupture of the Achilles tendon that leaves it out for all of 2021.
  • CB Jason Verrett, 49ers. Finally we come to Verrett, who has a very long injury history: from 2016 to 2019 he was only able to play a total of six games, and the trend has apparently not changed. San Francisco fears the worst: an ACL injury that could leave him out all season. The evaluations this Monday will be key to knowing the future of this team’s high school.

Which of these casualties will cause the greatest impact in the immediate future? What other serious injury deserves mention?
