NFL: Deshaun Watson suspended six games for sexual misconduct

The quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, deshaun watsonreceived this monday a six-game suspension from the 2022 season of the NFL for sexual misconduct.

The ruling was issued by former Federal District Judge Sue Robinson, who headed the Disciplinary Committee appointed by the NFL together with the Players Association (NFLPA), after the demands that the quarterback received in March 2021.

Last June 21 Deshaun Watson reached confidential settlements with 20 of the 24 women who filed those civil lawsuits in which he was accused of sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions.

That is why the determination includes the requirement that Watson does not receive any therapeutic massages other than those performed by his team staff.

Despite these confidential agreements that prevented the lawsuits from taking their course in June, the Disciplinary Committee evaluated the field marshal’s situation for three days and announced that he would render a verdict before the start of the 2022 season.

Although the league and the NFLPA have three business days to file a written appeal if they disagree with the six-game suspension, the Players Association issued a statement Sunday saying it would not appeal.

We cooperate with the NFL and provide information for investigation; therefore, regardless of the decision, Deshaun and the NFLPA will abide by his decision and urge the NFL to do the same,” the NFLPA reported.

The Cleveland Browns, who were expecting a penalty against the three-time Pro Bowl selection, hired quarterback Jacoby Brissettformerly of the Miami Dolphins to be at the team controls while Deshaun served his punishment.

In addition to Brissett, coach Kevin Stefanski’s team also features quarterback Josh Rosen, who played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, as a backup at the job.
