There is mourning on the way super bowl that crowns the 2021 season. Charles Dunlap father, bail bondsman and father of NFL player Carlos Dunlap Jr., was struck and killed by a car Saturday night, North Charleston police told US website CenLaNow.

At about 10:40 pm, someone called officers for an accident on Ashley Phosphate Road involving a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital for his injuries, where he died.

As such, the victim was later identified as Dunlap Sr. They are three children: Bianca Dunlap, Michael Dunlap and Carlos Dunlap Jr.

Dunlap Jr. is currently a defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks. The deceased played college football for the University of Florida and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The following statement was released by David Aylor Law Offices on behalf of the family to CenLaNow:

“The family is asking for privacy at this time. This is a devastating and shocking moment not only for family and friends, but for the community at large.”

The local Fort Dorchester High School also released a statement:

“Today we lost a great Patriots fan: Carlos Dunlap Sr. passed away. I want his family to know how much he will be missed by me and our entire football family. We send our support and prayers.”

State Representative Wendell Gilliard stated, “Mr. Carlos Dunlap and I have been friends for a long time! South Carolina has lost a great human being who practices peace and justice.”

The driver of the vehicle involved was located at the scene. The collision remains under investigation and no charges were filed as of Sunday.
