Guadalajara, Jalisco.- Galgos de Tijuana experienced a complicated afternoon in their second game of the season in the Mexican Professional American Football League (LFA) in a visit to Reyes de Jalisco that ended up beating them 10-0 at Estadio Tres de March.
Coach Guillermo Ruíz Burguete’s team had problems starting offensively, with a running game that was slowed down by Reyes’ defensive front and forced them to take on a predominantly aerial scheme.
Despite this, the “canine” team managed to exploit a couple of plays through the air from quarterback Lorenz Stefan (#23) and Alejandro Meléndez (#14) who shared “snaps” during the first half of the game.
Tijuana’s defense fought in the important moments in the four quarters, which kept a narrow margin on the board with just 10 points against.
Linebacker Oscar Leal (#5) was a fundamental piece in stopping Jalisco’s ground game, adding two tackles with loss of yards that shut down running back Jordan Shippy (#38), who proved to be Reyes’ greatest strength in the match.
The defensive line kept the pressure on passer Jonathan Mullin (#15), with an outstanding performance by lineman David Mendoza (#98) who got two sacks from the quarterback, one of them causing a fumble that Jalisco managed to recover but forced them to to clear and hand over the controls to Galgos.
Likewise, Luis Valencia MacFarland (#94) managed a quarterback sack, a couple of tackles in the rival backfield and combined with Luis Álvarez Castillo (#99) and Carlos Ríos (#97) to break the pocket of protection in several chances and causing errors in Reyes’ attack that cost his rival yards and possessions.
During the second half of the match, the offense led by Lorenz Stefan had a greater presence on the field, causing errors in the rival who gave up many yards thanks to penalties and managed to secure a better running game by Alejandro Mendoza (#11) and Isaiah Sombrite. (#1).
Despite showing a better face in the second half, Jalisco’s defense did not allow them to find the end zone and closed the match with a 10-0 loss for Galgos.
Tijuana (0-2-0) will be returning home to face Dinos (3-0-0) on Matchday 4 next Saturday, March 26 at 7:00 pm at Estadio Caliente.
