Matt Ryan admitted “surprise and shock” after losing the starting job for the Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis coach Frank Reich dismissed the idea that the Colts are giving up on the season, going 3-3-1.

INDIANAPOLIS — matt ryan showed up for work Monday morning, planning to rehabilitate his sore right shoulder and turn his attention to the Washington Commanders.

But, the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts was instead hit with the shocking news that he had lost his starting job to the sixth-round draft pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, sam ehlinger.

“As a player, you always anticipate, you’re getting ready, you’re ready to play,” he admitted. Ryan on Wednesday in his first comments since the decision of the Colts to send it to the bank. “So that’s where your mindset is. There’s a little surprise and shock at the start, but it’s a decision that they had to make and as a player, as a teammate, you have to move on and you have to help however you can.”

Ryan He has missed just three starts in his 15-year career and has never been a substitute, even in his first season with the Atlanta Falcons. But after committing 12 turnovers in the first seven games in indianapolisnow finds himself sitting behind a 24-year-old who has never thrown a pass in a regular-season game, a position he will maintain Ryaneven after he returns from his shoulder separation, according to the head coach Frank Reich.

“It’s not something I’ve dealt with,” he said. Ryan about being a reserve. “But, I’ve been here a long time and I’ve seen it happen.

“So I’ve always preached that you should accept and appreciate the role that’s decided for you, and try to be the best you can be in that role. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Reichwhen asked why the Colts make such a dramatic move despite their 3-3-1 record and a second-place finish in the AFC Hisr, rejected the idea that Indianapolis is giving up on the campaign.

“I can tell you this for sure: Nobody is waving a white flag.” he sentenced Reich. “It’s not in my DNA. It’s not in our players’ DNA. I would never do that in a million years. I just couldn’t do that.”

As for the team’s reaction to the quarterback change, the center Ryan Kelly suggested that the response was mixed.

“Everyone has their own opinions about it,” he shared. Kelly. “I’m not going to get into mine, but certainly, I think everyone was a little surprised. So, it is what it is.”
