Los Angeles Chargers 2021 NFL Season Analysis

In another stellar season for QB Justin Herbert, the Los Angeles Chargers fell off the contender ship early in the season. After being excited at the beginning, they could do little to sustain the success obtained, as a result of the inconsistency.

The final record of 8-8, Los Angeles fell short of the nine wins projected by Las Vegas In the beginning. However, the outlook looks at least interesting at the moment.

Fortunately, consistency seems to hold for QB Justin Herbert, who has firmly established himself in the franchise and in the NFL, when he was in the MVP conversation during the season. The response he’s had this year is incredible, thanks to big hits on the offensive line — All-Pro picks Rashawn Slater and C Corey Linsley. And in this way, they were really able to win games just by relying on the arm of this outstanding young man.

Although in general, especially in complementary football, it was a team that did not have equal talent. The work of DE Joey Bosa and S Derwin James was not enough to make up for the deficiencies of the linebackers and the rest of the defensive line, playing well below par. Overall, the offense had to load games, with WR Andre Roberts on special teams (another All Pro), to drive much of the year; so even with some well-known players, the rest of the team was a huge contrast.

This difference in talent, in turn, revealed the reconstruction situation they are experiencing, where there are still positions to fill and opportunities to grow. In this way, the initial explosiveness of head coach Brandon Staley was quickly diluted at the end of the season, and that excessive daring (much criticized for risking it on third and fourth chances almost automatically), was replaced by mistrust in his roster even Developing.

Best moment of the Chargers’ 2021 season

Without a doubt, the first game against the Chiefs was an important message for Andy Reid, who had a lot to fix since then. It was a very round game, with the best performance of the defense, especially through the air, since QB Patrick Mahomes (27 of 44, 260 YDS, 3 TDs, 2 INTs), struggled much more than normal to move the ball and everything went wrong; very contrasting to the Herbert numbers (26/38, 281 YDS, 4 TDs) who did what he wanted at Arrowhead Stadium, again.

The worst moment of his 2021 season

Likewise, the second installment of the series was arguably the final nail in the coffin for its season. Staley couldn’t beat the adjustments he forced on Andy Reid, who even without a running game, easily moved the ball. Consequently, everything went wrong and even the smallest plays were huge wins at crucial moments.

What is expected in the 2022 season?

It seems difficult for them to take the division away from the Chiefs yet, however, the main goal is to return to the playoffs; this year, will have $68,461,731 free in salary-cap space and a considerably high pick in the NFL Draft (#17).

With so many needs on defense but very good foundations on offense, they’re one smart spend away from being able to compete as expected. At the risk of rushing, due to recent history, they have all the earmarks of being the contender that we have left to owe.
