The coach of Peru, Ricardo Gareca, expressed this Friday his displeasure at the change of team of Lionel Messi, who would have liked him to continue at FC Barcelona instead of signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

“I didn’t particularly like him, but I respect Messi. I like him as a player. I think he is the best in the world. I didn’t like that FC Barcelona let Messi go or that Messi left FC Barcelona ”, Gareca commented.

At the press conference where he presented the list of those summoned to face Uruguay, Venezuela and Brazil on the September date of the qualifying round for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Argentine coach insisted that he wanted to continue seeing Messi dressed as a Barça player.

“It is what I had to live. I always saw Messi at Barcelona and I would have liked his career to end there, but they are very personal appreciations, “he said.

Asked if the signing of Messi by PSG is comparable to when he left Boca Juniors for River Plate, Gareca said that it is not so open to criticism, because in this case the Argentine star has not gone to Real Madrid.

“I don’t know if Barcelona’s rival is PSG …”, added the Argentine to emphasize that the Catalans’ biggest rival is the Madrid team and not the Parisian.

The coach of Peru also appreciated that this season the Spanish league has two Peruvian players, such as Renato Tapia, at Celta de Vigo, and Luis Abram at Granada.

He also reiterated that they follow in detail the evolution of Alessandro Burlamaqui in Valencia, who recently arrived for the subsidiary team but has options to integrate and play with the first team this season. (D)
