Denmark. His title at Euro 92 thanks to the exclusion of Yugoslavia

With the full illusion and avoiding some difficulties, such as losing his star Christian eriksen in the first round for a cardiac incident, the Denmark national team returns to play a semifinal in the Eurocup almost three decades later Of having done it.

The last time he did it was in Sweden 1992where it ended conquering the title in an edition that he entered by invitation, after the Selection of Yugoslavia was excluded of competition by a decree of the United Nations (UN).

The Danish team had not gotten their ticket to participate in the joust, after being in the second place in Group 4, just one point behind the Yugoslavs who finished in the leadership of the sector with 14 units, but 10 days before the tournament began in Stockholm, the United Nations Security Council issued a resolution blockade to the country because of the Balkan War which erupted in 1991 between Bosnian and Serbian peoples.

This blockade issued on May 30, 1992 reached sports competitions, excluding the Yugoslavia National Team from participating in that year’s Euro and also the qualifying rounds for the 1994 United States World Cup. Soccer was not only affected, since the athletes who were preparing for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games could not participate either.

After the exclusion of Yugoslavia, Denmark entered their place as part of Group 1. They took second place, only behind the host, Sweden, and leaving France and England eliminated. In Group 2, Germany and the Netherlands qualified for the Semifinals, who arrived as a defender of the crown won in 1988.

Surprisingly Denmark shut out a Clockwork Orange in series of penalties, after a tie to two in regulation time. On the other side the Germans eliminated the locals 3-2. Germany was the favorite, because in his record he already had two Eurocup titles, however, Denmark took the victory in the final 2-0 with goals from Kim Vilfort and John Faxe Jensen on the field of the Ullevi Stadium in the city of Gothenburg.

For this edition in which they returned to the Semifinals after 29 years, the Denmark national team has also passed some quirks to get to this instance, starting with the Christian Eriksen heart incident during the first game against Finland, in which they fell by the smallest difference.
