Cristiano Ronaldo and Ali Daei, top international scorers, did not score against Mexico

In the history of the national team’s top scorers, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ali Daei, Mexico does not appear among the teams they scored against

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in Portugal’s draw against France at EURO 2020 and equaled Ali daei as the top international scorer. However, of the 109 goals scored by the Portuguese and the former Iranian footballer, none was against the Mexican National Team.

The Juventus forward has played only one game against El Tri and it was in the 2017 Confederations Cup with Juan Carlos Osorio as coach of the Aztec team. In the 2006 World Cup, Cristiano was on the bench, but did not enter the triumph of his team over El Tri.

In the duel corresponding to the Group Phase, Ronaldo started against Mexico and wore the captain’s badge, but it was not reflected on the scoreboard although he did help with an assist. The match ended equal to two goals per side with Chicharito and Héctor Moreno scoring for the tricolor squad.

For its part, Ali faced Mexico in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Daei wore the captain’s badge, but there is little I can do to avoid a 3-1 loss to those led by Ricardo Antonio La Volpe. It should be noted that prior to the duel, Ali assured that El Tri only had one fault: Ricardo Osorio, and that he was going to exploit his aerial game to show it.

Ronaldo could become the top international scorer if he manages to score in the Round of 16 match against Belgium. The meeting is scheduled for Sunday June 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Mexico City.

For his part, Ali highlighted Cristiano’s feat on social networks and referred to the Portuguese footballer as a person who inspires the world.

“Congratulations to Ronaldo, who is now one goal away from breaking the men’s international goal record. I am honored that this remarkable achievement belongs to Ronaldo, great soccer champion and caring humanist who inspires lives around the world,” he wrote.
