Sports Writing, 26 Aug. The Dallas Cowboys beat the Seattle Seahawks 27-26 on Friday in a close game of week three, the last of the NFL preseason.
Seattle took a 13-10 lead in the first half thanks to two field goals and a touchdown pass from starting quarterback Drew Lock to Penny Hart.
Lock, who missed last week’s game because he tested positive for COVID-19, was erratic, completing just 13 of 24 passes and having three interceptions in the game.
Dak Prescott’s backup quarterback Cooper Rush started the game with Dallas. He only played one offense; he was pressured and racked up 20 yards on 2-of-5 completions.
Starting on the next drive, Will Grier led the Cowboys’ attack, scoring in the second quarter to Simi Fehoko, but had the same problems as Rush; He had little time to throw because of the pressure and suffered a sack before the break.
Dallas was without offensive line leader Tyler Smith, left tackle, who will miss the 2022 season because he broke his knee in practice Wednesday.
In the third quarter Seattle extended the lead 20-10 with a rushing touchdown by DeeJay Dallas. The Cowboys responded with a field goal that brought them within 20-13.
One offense later, Lock suffered his third interception of the duel, an error that Will Grier capitalized on with another touchdown pass, this time to Brandon Smith, who tied the score at 20-20.
In the last quarter, Seattle led 26-20 with two field goals. Dallas turned around 27-26 on fourth quarterback Ben DiNucci’s touchdown pass to rookie Peyton Hendershot.
With the Cowboys, Mexican Isaac Alarcón started the game as left guard; in the first quarter he committed two penalties. He returned to the game in the second half; in the last period he left with an ankle injury.
For Seattle, the Spanish José Joaquín Arcega-Whiteside did not play.
In another game, the Carolina Panthers beat the Buffalo Bills 21-0, a team with which rookie kicker Matt Araiza did not act, who was sued for participating in the gang rape of a minor during a party in 2021.
This Friday the Bills issued a statement in which they explained that they will await the procedures of the process facing Araiza, selected in the sixth round of this year’s Draft.
“We just learned of a lawsuit involving Matt. Due to the seriousness of the complaint and being a civil case, we will not be making any further comments at this time,” was the Bills’ message.
Buffalo backup quarterback Matt Barkley was in charge of the punts, as Araiza, 22, was the only kicker on the squad.
