Chargers out of postseason

The Los Angeles Chargers fell 35-32 to the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime. The Volts finished the 2021 season with a 9-8 record and were out of the postseason.

The Rays rallied from a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime. This year the Chargers scored 181 points in the fourth quarter, the second-most in a single season in NFL annals.

The Volts’ offense made six of seven fourth-down attempts, the six fourth-down conversions being the most in a game in the past 40 years.

Los Angeles’ 24 touchdowns in the fourth quarter is the most in a season since at least 1991.

Los Angeles set single-season team records for first downs (401) and touchdown passes (38).

Justin Herbert’s second season was unprecedented, finishing the game with 383 yards, three touchdowns and an interception on 34 completions of 64 attempts for an 80.4 passer rating.

Herbert got his ninth game with more than 300 passing yards of the season, a lightning franchise record, and tied Tom Brady for the most 300-yard games in an NFL season.

Herbert is the first player in team history to reach 5,000 passing yards in a season, finishing with 5,014 yards, the best in the AFC this year. At 23 years, 305 days old, he is the third youngest player to throw for 5,000 yards in a season.

Justin Herbert’s three touchdown passes gave him 69 for his career to set the all-time record for touchdown passes in the first two seasons of the player’s career.

His 77 combined runs and passes are also the most in history in the first two years of a player’s career.

Justin Herbert reached 9,000 yards in his career in the 32nd game of his career to tie Kurt Warner for the second-fastest player to do so in NFL history.

Running back Austin Ekeler scored two touchdowns (one rushing and one receiving), tying Colts running back Jonathan Taylor for the most in the NFL in 2021.

Herbert already holds the team’s record for touchdown passes in a single season and now set the lightning mark for completions and most passes in a single season.

The Los Angeles defense led the NFL with 11 fumble sacks and ranked third with 19 forced fumbles, the best in the conference.
