Cardinals trade for Robbie Anderson after Marquise Brown injured

Arizona negotiated with the Panthers to receive the wide receiver, who on Sunday had a heated argument on the bench with a coach and was sent to the locker room

The arizona cardinals acquired wide receiver Robert Anderson this Monday, a day after wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown suffered a foot injury That could end his season.

Brown suffered an injury that would possibly end his campaign early in the defeat of Arizona19-9, against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN. Brownwho told reporters Sunday that X-rays on his foot came back negative, was undergoing further tests Monday to determine the severity of the injury, sources said.

Brownwho was acquired by the Cardinals Coming from the Baltimore Ravens during this year’s draft, he has 43 receptions for 485 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season.

The Cardinals indicated in a statement that they acquired Anderson for undisclosed draft compensation.

The exchange of Anderson comes a day after the wide receiver was kicked out of the game by the Los Angeles interim head coach. Carolina PanthersSteve Wilks after arguing on the bench with his position coach.

“No one is more important than the team,” Wilks said of Anderson on Sunday following a 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in his first game since replacing Matt Rhule, who was fired last Monday. “I’m not going to focus and pay close attention to one person.”

Anderson had a heated argument with the receiving coach of the panthers, Joe Dailey, towards the end of the first half and started the second half on a stationary bike wearing a cap instead of his helmet. Later in the third quarter, Anderson he sat alone in a cooler while the rest of the offense discussed strategy on the bench.

Later in the third quarter, with the panthers trailing 17-10 and not getting a first down since the first quarter, Anderson and Dailey again argued. Wilks intervened and sent Anderson to the dressing room

Anderson he said he “had no idea” why he was sent to the locker room. Dailey was not available for comment, but Anderson he decided to speak to the press after meeting with general manager Scott Fitterer.

“Honestly, I was confused,” he said. Anderson. “I wanted to be in the game. No one had ever yelled at me to get me out of a game. So I was honestly confused and upset about it. I had to be. I don’t see anyone who is a real competitor, who knows the value they bring and has a true passion for the game, to be calm when told not to do something or kicked out when they did nothing wrong.

Anderson joins a team of Cardinals which was deadlocked at 2-4 with its loss on Sunday. All-star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is scheduled to return from a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policies this week, and the team’s offense has had enough trouble without him.

The nine points scored by the Cardinals on Sunday they tied for second-fewest under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. The Cardinals they have yet to score 30 points this season and have reached the 400-yard barrier in a game just once. Quarterback Kyler Murray said after Sunday’s game that the Arizona he hadn’t been this bad since his freshman year.

“That’s the last time he felt this way,” he said. “We just feel like it’s tough out there right now. Tough. That’s how it feels. A lot of it is self-inflicted, self-inflicted. We’ve got to get better.”

Anderson he was brought to Carolina by Rhule in 2020 after he played four seasons with the New York Jets. He played for Rhule at Temple and his career seemed to rebound when he set a career-high 95 receptions for 1,096 yards last season.

Anderson He received a two-year, $29.5 million extension through 2023 before the 2021 season, then struggled and had just 53 receptions for 519 yards.

Anderson he had no reception on Sunday. He entered the game with 13 receptions for 206 yards — 75 of them for a touchdown in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns on a Baker Mayfield pass.

The Cardinals will take on the $575,000 salary of Anderson for the rest of the year, while the panthers — who restructured their contract in March — will take a $20 million hit in salary-cap dead money spread between this year and next.
