TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A court has issued a warrant for the arrest of former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown on one count of assault stemming from a domestic disturbance, Tampa police said Thursday.
Investigators said Brown, 34, got into a verbal dispute with a woman Monday afternoon at a Tampa home. Brown threw a shoe at the victim, tried to forcefully eject her from the home and then locked her up, according to the complaint.
There is an arrest warrant issued by a court. Details of Monday’s brawl were not immediately released.
Brown’s contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was revoked a few days after he threw some of his clothing and equipment into the stands in the middle of a game on Jan. 2.
Soon after, Brown said that he was forced to play injured, but Bruce Arians, then-Tampa Bay coach, claimed instead that the player was upset that he did not receive the ball more often.
Brown has a long history of conflicts on and off the field. He was accused of sexual assault by two women, one of whom claimed that she had raped her.
In the 2021 season, he served a three-game suspension for falsely claiming to have received a COVID-19 vaccination.
He was suspended eight games in 2020 for multiple violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy after pleading not guilty or not guilty to theft and criminal mischief charges related to a fight with the driver of a Moving truck in front of the athlete’s home in South Florida.
Brown began his career with the Steelers and was named a four-time All-Pro. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection during his nine seasons in Pittsburgh.
Later, he was traded to the Raiders, but never played in a regular season game with that team, who released him after several off-the-field problems.
New England hired him later but terminated his contract a few weeks later when a second woman in 10 days accused Brown of sex crimes.
Tampa Bay has been Brown’s last team in the NFL.
