Aaron Rodgers fully trusts his new receivers

The quarterback accepted that it will be difficult to cover the absence of Davante Adams

Aaron Rodgers he might not be so worried about his wide receivers as many Green Bay Packers fans seem to be.

Rodgers was asked Saturday about his receiving group in light of the loss of Davante Adams, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason in a franchise-changing deal. The quarterback doesn’t seem daunted by the challenge of setting up new targets in this offense.

“I like the guys we have,” Rodgers said Saturday on Training Camp: Back Together Saturday.

“Obviously not having Davante, who took the most targets last year and had an amazing season, there’s going to be the same number of balls, yards and touchdowns for everybody. So now it’s about who’s going to be on those situations to make those plays.

One starter who seems poised for a big role is Allen Lazard, who finished last season strong and finished 2021 with eight touchdown receptions.

After joking earlier this week that both Adams and Lazard would be future Hall of Famers, Rodgers took to heart his clear expectations for Lazard — in a season-ending catcher’s contract, no less.

“Obviously, Allen Lazard is going to take on the number one role,” Rodgers said, “and I think it’s going to be a very smooth transition for him as a primary blocker and kind of a niche type for us, to get a chance to get more shots, be the number 1 in the progression more often”.
