Zion receives foot injection for ‘frustrating’ injury

METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Pelicans announced that Zion williamson he received an injection in his right foot to help the bones heal.

Williamson will be reassessed in 4-6 weeks once more images of the foot can be obtained.

Earlier this week, he traveled to Los Angeles to meet with Dr. Richard Ferkel of the Orthopedic Institute of Southern California. Ferkel, who along with team doctors performed the initial surgery on Williamson’s fractured right foot, gave him the biological injection on Wednesday.

“I don’t necessarily want to speak for him, but I have spoken to him, but it’s been frustrating for everyone,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said after practice Thursday.

“It has been frustrating for him, his family. We continue to navigate adversity. We want to be encouraging and hopeful. It is something that he is dealing with and that we are all dealing with as an organization. We just have to try and continue to overcome. But it has been difficult. “

The team says Williamson will stick to low-impact partial weight-bearing activities for an extended period.

Williamson, who broke his foot during offseason workouts, has yet to play in an NBA game this season. In his absence, the Pelicans are 9-21 and are coming off a win Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
