Which team is most desperate to win the NBA Draft Lottery?

This Tuesday the Draft Lottery of the NBA 2021, being a defining moment for the project of several teams. This particular class has several very interesting prospects and the franchises are looking forward to seeing who will represent them starting next season.

The three teams with the best probability (14%) of winning the first overall selection are the Houston Rockets, the Detroit Pistons and the Orlando Magic, all of them with something in common: they need a franchise player.

Reviewing the roster of these three organizations there are several things in common, such as the fact that they left a good part of their best players during the season that just ended, acquiring young pieces and incidentally multiple draft selections.

If it comes to taking into consideration the payroll with more arguments, it is undoubtedly Houston, which acquired players like Christian Wood, Kelly Olynyk, John Wall and Kevin Porter Jr., among others. They clearly need more weight pieces, but they may be fine even without winning this lottery.

In the case of the Detroit Pistons, throughout the campaign they delivered Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin, two of the leaders of the squad, in various deals. His performance revolved around Jerami Grant, who signed as a free agent with the team in 2020. Saddiq Bey, Josh Jackson and Hamidou Diallo are his most promising pieces.

Finally, there is the case of the Orlando Magic, a team that was completely disarmed after the end of the previous season and really need to win this fight. His three main references left the team: Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon.

Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz and Wendell Carter Jr., stand out on the roster as some of the most talented players he has. They received quite a few draft picks and managed to get off major contracts, but now they require a young star to build their project.

We are close to knowing which of these teams, or if some with fewer opportunities, such as the Thunder (11.5%) or the Cavaliers (11.5%), end up winning the possibility of choosing in first position young figures of the stature of Cade Cunningham, Jalen Suggs or Evan Mobley.
