Warriors expect Curry (sprain) for playoffs

The star of the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Currywill return for the start of the Western Conference Playoffs due to a sprained left foot, but will undergo further evaluation with specialists, sources told ESPN.

Curry and the Warriors are consulting with Dr. Richard Ferkel, a renowned foot specialist, about the injury, sources said.

Curry suffered the injury in a collision with Boston Celtics shooting guard, Marcus Smart, on Wednesday night, and an MRI revealed the sprained foot. There is no structural damage and Curry is believed to have avoided serious injury, the sources said.

The play occurred in the second quarter when Curry and Smart dived for a fumble and Smart rolled on Curry’s leg. Curry initially tried to endure the pain, but he left the game after being checked out on the bench. After halftime, he was ruled out for the rest of the night.

Neither Warriors coach Steve Kerr nor forward Draymond Green they called the play in which Curry was injured dirty, but called it “dangerous” and “unnecessary.”

“I saw the ball, I went for the ball, trying to make a play,” Smart said after the game. “Unfortunately, that happened.”

Curry’s injury comes two games after Green returned from a back injury that kept him out for 2 1/2 months. Curry, Green and Klay Thompsonwho returned from a 2 1/2-month hiatus in January, played just 11 minutes together this season.

“It seems like every time we get someone back, someone else goes down,” Green said. “So it’s definitely a concern.”
