University selections aim high: there will be processes for all disciplines

after what was the experience of the Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 teams in Madridthe University Sports League it has already focused and points to new processes, but in other categories and in all the disciplines that are currently active in the organization.

In this sense, yesterday a series of talks began with the institutional delegates whose priority is to publicize the different processes of Uruguayan university teams, as well as the objectives of each sport and the possible destinations to travel to compete in the coming months.

The football gave the initial kick in this 2022 with what was the trip to Spain with training and friendly matches against Atletico Madridbut now the range will be wider: the Under 14, Under 23 and Senior soccer teams will be formed, basketball, futsal, Women’s Football and also of hockey feminine.

“The project of selections of the University League continues and is extended to all categories and disciplines that currently have competition in the League. In soccer, the Under 23 team will be set up, as well as the Senior team, with the aim of preparing for the international tournament that will take place in Barcelona in October. Those two categories are going to travel with the Pre Senior and +40 teams that are not going to start training yet,” he told Ovation Diego Suarezcoordinator of university selections.

On the other hand, there will also be selection processes for U-14 football and women’s 8-a-side football that will train on Fridays with the aim of traveling to compete in Chili in the month of October together with the futsal, basketball and women’s hockey team.

Each process will begin with a pre-selection during the month of June and then the final squads for each sport will be formed with routes to these international participations.

The soccer team under 23 Y Higher will have Gabriel Farcilli beside Fabian Guerrero as coaches, the Sub 14 to Nicholas Baudo Y Washington Garmendiawomen’s football Matias Desevohockey to Marcelo Reinieribasketball to Gonzalo Caneiro and the futsal to Ignatius Ripa.
In addition, as coordinators of the selections they will be Karina Bisignano in hockey, Matthias Garcia in futsal and basketball, Mauro Sorrentino in physical preparation and Diego Suarez as general coordinator of these processes.

“In general, the selection processes in the League were aimed at preparing for a trip and then nothing else. This seeks to generate continuity to an idea of ​​work for players who, from an early age, get involved in a process, not only of a sporting nature but also social, because this allows them to live experiences abroad, generating coexistence, anecdotes and links between players who generally they are rivals every weekend and they end up being friends. But they are also looking to give the League itself a leap in quality and thanks to the behavior of the teams abroad, they are beginning to receive invitations to compete in other countries”, explained Diego Suárez.

In the short term, the University Sports League will also continue to work with the National Secretary of Sport ahead of the international tournament that the university students will organize from March 2 to 5, 2023 in Punta del Este, but also with a view to building a sports complex that allows the institution to maintain the selection processes: “It is an objective that we traced and that hopefully we can fulfill it to continue growing”.
