Unicaja Mijas, new name for the women’s team

The locality of Mijas becomes the sponsor of Unibox feminine of Women’s League 2. The agreement was presented at the Town Hall of the town of Mijas, and was attended by the mayor of the municipality, Josele Gonzalez; the president of Unicaja Basketball, Antonio Jesus Lopez Nieto; the team coach, Jesus Lazarus; and the players Salome Garcia and Marta Ortega.

Thanks to this agreement, the Malaga team, which will be renamed Unicaja Mijas, will wear the town’s logo on its game shirt and cover. In addition, the team will visit the municipal sports facilities of the Mijas Town Hall throughout the season.

The mayor of Mijas, Josele Gonzalezdeclared that for the town “a dream that we had been working from the City Council with Unicaja is fulfilled, because we understood that through sport it is one of the best ways to promote our destination, our city, and certify the quality and commitment that it makes Mijas for the sport. Through the women’s basketball team we are going to be able to continue projecting what we are, the third city of the province of Malagaa city in constant growth and that is fashionable”.

For the club president, Antonio Jesus Lopez Nieto, It is “a very positive agreement for both parties and for the development of women’s basketball. The team has a ‘conaming’, which will be Unicaja Mijas, and it is a marital link in the name and that will enable the development of this basketball and that we come to play some games here in Mijas. We are very happy and the girls too. It coincides in that there are three players from Mijas in the first team, therefore it makes synergy much easier”.

For Martha Ortega, Unicaja Mijas player and native of the town, the project “is very exciting because it is different from last year. This year we are many young people, most of them 18 years old, and at that age they are very eager and excited to be in the first Unicaja women’s team. That’s what will make us different from the rest”.

Mijas is one of the 11 towns that are part of the campaign ‘Our province plays’ and this season consolidates its commitment to women’s basketball. In this way, it will support the team from Malaga, which faces its fourth consecutive season in the Women’s League 2, a competition in which it is consolidated and in which it competes based on a great commitment to the quarry that is giving such good results to both Andalusian basketball and national.
